THE JULIAN SUMMIT, KILCULLEN,
IRELAND
REPORT ON EDITING JULIAN OF NORWICH
Sister Anna Maria Reynolds, C.P., of Kilcullen, who edited all the Julian manuscripts during the war years for her M.A., and D.Phil. Theses, University of Leeds. Subsequent editions have used her work, her sigla.

Sisters Anna Maria Reynolds C.P., Ritamary Bradley, S.F.C.C., Julia Bolton Holloway, H.F.
We were very much living
Julian's
own context of prayer, sometimes adjourning to say the Rosary in chapel
amidst Irish voices, sometimes interrupting our work to say the
Angelus,
led by Sister Anna Maria, and always joining the Sisters for Matins,
Mass,
and Vespers. One day we went in search of St Bridget's Well. Otherwise
we were intensely working at this project together, checking the text
and
the translation over and over again, discussing its points and its
contexts,
and marvelling at the team of women scribes
and
editors who had preceded us, centuries upon centuries of nuns' careful
work, preserving a treasured text within first Brigittine, then
Benedictine
cloisters, at first in England, then in exile on the Continent.

Sister
Anna Maria Reynolds C.P. is the greatest editor Julian ever had. During
the war years she was transcribing the extant microfilms with a
microscope, a word at a time, for her Leeds University MA and Ph.D.
theses. Subsequent editions are based on her meticulous work. Now in
her nineties, blind, frail, she has created a fine CD in which she
discusses Julian with total recall of the text. It can be obtained for
12 euro from her at Cross and Passion Convent, 22 Griffith Avenue,
Marino, Dublin 9, EIRE.
